WHAT IS THE SUMMER ADVENTURES PROGRAM?
New Outlook's Summer Adventures program includes more than thirty recreational, outdoor adventure, and educational trips during July and August. Highlights of Summer Adventures include museums, pro ball games, overnight camping, white water rafting, rock climbing, hiking, and sea kayaking. There is a one-time registration charge for each participant based on a sliding fee scale. Trips are filled on a first come, first serve basis, so please register early.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
All youth attending 6th through 12th grade.
WHAT IS THE BEHAVIOR POLICY?
It is our goal to provide a physically and emotionally safe environment for all participants. Therefore, New Outlook has a clear and consistent behavior policy. We operate under a "Full Value Contract" that participants commit to at the beginning of each trip. We ask that participants fully value themselves, each other, staff, and our environment by following the rules and instructions given during trips/activities. Inappropriate behavior will be addressed immediately, and consequences may include participants being sent home at the expense of the parent/guardian, and/or suspension from future trips.
WHAT IS THE STAFF TO PARTICIPANT RATIO?
As a general rule, there is one staff member for every seven participants during activities.
CANCELLATIONS:
Please be aware that New Outlook maintains a no refund policy for our initial registration fee. If you need to cancel a trip for which you are registered, please call as soon as possible so that others may be accommodated. Continual failure to show up for registered trips may result in the exclusion of a participant from one or more upcoming trips. We maintain a waiting list for all trips.
MEDICATIONS:
If a participant is on prescription medication, we require the use of this medication while attending our summer activities. The staff at New Outlook will hold prescription medications for participants with written permission from a parent/guardian. Although staff can help with reminders, participants are responsible for the administering of their medications at all times. If a participant has a prescription for a metered dose inhaler (for asthma), or an epi-pen (for allergic reaction to bee stings), they will be REQUIRED to carry these medications with them at all times. They must also be able to self-administer these medications in the case of an emergency. Failure to bring a necessary prescription, inhaler, or epi-pen will mean that the participant cannot attend the day's trip. All medications must be in their original containers.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Participants should bring the following EVERY DAY, unless otherwise noted:
- A willingness to participate
- A positive attitude
- Lunch and snacks, unless otherwise noted
- Weather-proof gear
- Sun block and bug spray
*** A more detailed list will be provided for each trip. Times and trips may be subject to change. Please visit the calendar section of www.newoutlookteencenter.org for the most up to date trip information.
